Man Accused Of Making Lewd Comments To Same-Sex Couple On Long Island, Assaulting Woman

A man allegedly assaulted a woman in Patchogue earlier this month after making lewd comments to a same-sex female couple, according to police.

Two women were in an alleyway, just west of the Patchogue-Medford Library on Main Street, when they were allegedly approached by a group of men on Sunday, July 7 at approximately 3:30 a.m., according to Suffolk County Police.

One of the men made lewd comments toward the women, according to police. 

After a verbal altercation, the man assaulted one of the women, police said.

Detectives do not believe the other men participated in the assault, according to police.

Hate Crimes detectives are investigating the incident since the victims are a same-sex couple who believe they were targeted, Suffolk County Police said.

The victim was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The suspect is described as black, wearing a red bandana, red shirt, and red pants. 

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Hate Crimes Unit detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the man.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
